Pre-Shipment Inspection: How We Protect Your Import Order
The single biggest risk in international trade is receiving goods that do not match the order — wrong grade, off colour, damaged material or short weight. A structured pre-shipment inspection removes most of that risk before the container ever leaves India. Here is how the process works and why it protects your import order.
What pre-shipment inspection covers
Inspection happens after production is complete but before the container is sealed. For building materials it verifies material type, dimensions, thickness, finish and surface defects. For agricultural commodities it checks moisture, grain length, foreign matter, broken percentage and packaging integrity. The goal is simple: confirm that what is loaded matches what was agreed.
A documented, repeatable checklist
- Quantity & weight — piece count and container weight against the packing list.
- Quality & grade — material or commodity matches the agreed specification.
- Dimensions & tolerance — slab sizes, thickness and cut accuracy.
- Packing — crating, palletising and moisture protection fit for a sea voyage.
- Marking — labels, shipping marks and documentation are correct.
Photographic and written records
A good inspection is documented, not verbal. Dated photographs of the material, loading and container seal, together with a written report of measured parameters, give the buyer confidence and create a clear record if any dispute arises later. This paperwork also speeds customs clearance at the destination port.
Why it saves money in the long run
Catching a problem before shipment costs a fraction of dealing with it after arrival. Rejected containers, demurrage charges, re-export and damaged customer relationships are all far more expensive than a thorough check at the loading point. Pre-shipment inspection is not an added cost — it is insurance against a much larger one.
